The #1 Priority in Life

When my father was 56, while chatting over a nice single malt whisky, he said to me he wished he’d spent more time with me when I was growing up.

3 years later, he died of a heart attack in the middle of the night. We didn’t get to do a lot of the things that we had both, I’m sure, imagined we would together. It hit me really hard.

I think when we get very heavily involved in our work, whether it’s building a career or building your own business, it’s easy for the priorities of work to seem the most important thing. While they may be really important, when you count up the score at the end of life, they’re not the #1 thing.

Despite sitting down today to write about businesses to achieve hypergrowth, another thought crossed my mind.

My family spent today in Poole to remember and celebrate the life of my mother. She died 3 years ago and this is the first time we’ve had chance to celebrate together due to Covid.

Make your family and good times a real priority. Don’t make life all about business with no play. One day, when your scores are added up, you’ll find there’s a few missing points that would have been really valuable for a life well-lived.
